Wild Birds in Stained Glass: Meet the Woodpecker, Owl, Jay, Meadowlark & Titmouse Collection

Five wild bird portraits in handcrafted stained glass — a Red-headed Woodpecker, Western Meadowlark, Tufted Titmouse, Steller's Jay, and Owl, each rendered with field-guide accuracy. For birdwatchers, grandparents, teachers, and anyone who wants a gift that names the exact bird they love.

There is a particular kind of person who knows the difference between a Steller's Jay and a Blue Jay from thirty feet away.

This collection was made for them.

Each of these birds is rendered with field-guide accuracy in handcrafted stained glass — the right colour glass for each species, the characteristic pose, the specific details that birdwatchers notice and appreciate. These are not generic birds. They are portraits.

🐦 The Wild Bird Collection — Five Portraits in Glass

Red-headed Woodpecker (from $64.15)

The entirely crimson-red head in vivid cathedral glass. Black and white body with painted detail spots. A naturalistic pecking pose — head tilted toward the branch, beak forward — that captures the woodpecker mid-work. The autumn wire branch is the most elaborate in the shop: amber glass leaves, yellow glass leaf drops, and amber crystal beads trailing in both directions.

At 8.5 × 5.5 inches, this is one of the largest pieces in the collection — and one of the most seasonally expressive. In an east-facing window on an autumn morning, the amber leaves and red glass head produce a warmth that belongs to October.

Western Meadowlark (from $64.15)

The only bird in the collection shown singing. Beak open, head tilted upward, mid-call — the pose that any birdwatcher in the American Midwest, Great Plains, or Pacific Northwest will recognise instantly. Vivid canary yellow breast in bright cathedral glass, the black V-shaped necklace at the throat, mottled brown-grey back rendered in textured glass.

The Western Meadowlark is the state bird of six US states: Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, and Wyoming. It is the most geographically significant bird in the shop for state-pride gifting.

Tufted Titmouse (from $69.86)

The bird most often confused with the Chickadee — until you see the crest. A soft blue-grey opalescent body, white face and belly, and the characteristic pointed grey crest rising from the crown. Three translucent green glass leaf drops hang from the wire branch.

Unlike the cathedral glass pieces, the Titmouse uses opalescent glass for the body — giving it a soft, milky, light-diffusing quality. In a sunny window, it shimmers gently rather than projecting colour. This is the most understated and elegant piece in the collection, and often the one that backyard birders with feeders respond to most strongly.

Steller's Jay (from $67.00)

A dark bronze S-curve wire frame holds the bird like something between a suncatcher and a framed painting. Inside: a Steller's Jay in teal, turquoise, and slate-blue glass, perched on a wire branch, with an amber crystal bead and a yellow glass leaf trailing from the tail.

The ring hanger at the top works equally well in a window or on a wall — making this the most versatile display piece in the collection. The Blue Jay variant covers the eastern counterpart for birdwatchers on the other side of the country. Also available in Chickadee and Downy Woodpecker.

Stained Glass Owl (from $67.00)

Amber-brown wings with gold bead accent feathers, a cream-white chest, expressive amber eyes with black pupils, a wire branch perch with detailed wire talons. Hung from a rustic twine cord, the owl sits beautifully in a window, on a wall, or in a cosy reading nook where its steady gaze fits right in.

The owl is one of the oldest symbols in art and culture: wisdom, patience, and the ability to see clearly in the dark. That makes it an exceptional gift for a teacher, a mentor, a grandparent, or anyone retiring after years of quiet, steady guidance. The Raven variant — bold, all-black, and literary — opens a completely different direction for Gothic and dark-aesthetic homes.
